With a
population of about 800, Fort
Vermilion is located 400 kilometers
north of the town of Peace River. It
is Alberta’s most northerly farming
area and supports a logging
industry. Established in 1788 as a
Hudson's Bay trading post, Fort
Vermilion today serves as a
communication, transportation, and
emergency services hub for a number
of surrounding communities,
including nearby native reserves.
Canadian Sunday School Mission began a church plant here in 1982 and now
it has grown to about 70 people who
are excited about reaching men and
women, teens and children with the
Gospel of Christ. They seek to
minister to the community in various
ways using special programs for
children, youth and adults as well
as visitation in homes, hospital,
and lodges. Some First Nations
ministries have been done on the
surrounding reserves. Anyone with
a need for instruction or fellowship
is met with warmth and friendship.
Visitors are welcome anytime.
