Our History

Amasa is not an acronym  but is the name of a Biblical person, and means "Burden Bearer."
Significant Dates
1983:  Adult camp at Hope Bay.
1985: Bible study at Pearson Centre in Vancouver.
1986:  Squamish retreat for physically challenged adults.
1986:  Adult camp at Peachland for mentally challenged.
1987:  Integrated camp for children at Hope Bay.
1988:  Respite camp for children in Surrey.
1988:  Second week of adult mentally challenged camp at Hope Bay.
1996:  Adult mentally challenged camp at Clearwater.
1997:  Second week of camp for mentally challenged adults at Peachland.
1997:  Integrated children's camp at Peachland.
1998:  Adult camp for mentally challenged in Cariboo country.
2000: Cariboo Camp placed on hold until sufficient full time staff are found
2002: Okanagan Adult Camp transfered from Peachland to Winfield.
In the summer of 2004 Amasa hopes to reach  around 220 mentally challenged adults in our 6 weeks of camp at 3 sites. Lord willing we will also reach around 20 children at our Respite Camp. The number at Integrated Camp  is hard to estimate as factors vary. We continue to serve at Pearson Centre.
May we always remember to give God the glory for His work through Amasa.
